Story behind BAO

BAO was sparked from my trip to Japan.

As I was packing up my luggage for my trip to Japan last spring, I struggled so much with what stationery to bring with me and what to left behind. And finding an appropriate containers for all of them was tough. I ended up with a stash of STICKII packs, a pen case, 2 journals, and another bag of misc things like scissors and washi tapes.

This upsets me a lot, especially after learned about how hard our STICKII subscribers can experience the same. This is how BAO project initially started in my head.

Just like starting STICKII, I want to make sure BAO is absolutely fantastic and unique. I did a lot of research and did not find any contemporary looking stationery organizing bag with an A5 binder in the market. My design background is telling me I need to do something, so I by nature started designing BAO.

Being immersed in the stationery heaven Japan was very helpful for my design process. I did several huge stationery haul (and yes you can now see many of them from the image in the left) and furthered my understanding of what people might want to put in BAO.

After rounds and rounds of revision, going back and force with the factory for manufacturing challenges. The final design is borned! I want to make the first 6 color especially meaningful to me. So I picked those color from my favoriate place from that trip – The Zen Garden at Ryoanji Temple in Kyoto. Each color represents a component that constructed the perfect moment of the Japanese zen garden. Don’t feel suprise finding that each color is named in Japanese.

I appreciate every single one of you who showed your support in the initial BAO launch. I am very nervous but very excited for each one of you to experience BAO!
